Judah Folkman died of a heart attack at Denver airport on January 14. He was in transit to a conference in Vancouver. His importance for the field of vascular biology cannot be overstated; the web is full of his obituaries (The Lancet, Nature, Cell just to link a few). I personally met him first when he acted as an opponent in Arja Kaipainen's PhD thesis defense in spring 1997. Dear Nobel prize committee: You were again waiting too long.
