Vascular Biology
Vascular biology is the study of the structure, function, and development of the circulatory system, which comprises both blood and lymphatic vessels. It explores how endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and pericytes interact to regulate blood flow, deliver oxygen and nutrients, and maintain tissue homeostasis. Vascular dysfunction underlies many of the world's leading causes of mortality, including cardiovascular disease and stroke and contributes to neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and diabetes-related complications. Controlling vascular growth would be a game changer for the treatment of ischemic diseases and cancer.
