Just the Two of Us
My little darling! I believe the streetlamps here are all mixed up. I believe not a single paving stone is in its proper place anymore. And the houses, look, the Lord in his wrath has knocked them on their sides. For the first time, it is just the two of us alone.
My little darling! And along the paths of my thoughts walks a man of mist, who can be seen right through like a glazier’s window. You too can see right through that man, how foolish he is. You see how he would like to tell you, that he would want to die for your sake.
Oh, my little darling! Do not smash him completely to pieces against the pavement stones with the fists of your laughter.
P. Mustapää (1925)
