I still dream of improving my Finnish language skills, and as a consequence, I occasionally do irrational things. Now, with much help from two amazingly patient editors, I have tried to write a popular science article in Finnish about our scientific excursion into fish biology territory. The article  just appeared in the mene & tiedä  online magazine of the Young Academy Finland  ( Nourten Tiedeakatemia  ).

I have no idea how understandable or interesting the text is to a Finnish high school student (the target audience of the mene & tiedä outlet). Virginia, Zuzana, Kaska, Jörg, and I spent three years writing the actual scientific article  upon which this popular science article is based. After thinking so much about a topic, one’s perception of any writing about the topic bears no relation to reality anymore. If you are a Finnish native speaker, I’d really appreciate feedback! I am considering translating the text into English to make it available to a broader audience, but that will likely have to wait until next summer.

UPDATE (April 21, 2026): I have translated the article into English and uploaded it to Zenodo: https://zenodo.org/records/19683374  .
